This is starting to sound strange (even to me) but I agree with Ben Stein about not selling fear and panic. Instead of just waving your arms and saying "the market plunged!" when it dropped 1%, and maybe you should ask what actually happened? If stocks were sold, where did the money go? Was it profit-taking or did it get moved into bonds or gold? Was it all of the above? What was the breakdown of the sell-off in terms of volume and who was doing the selling? Maybe if you tried to actually dissect the situation, we all might have a hope of understanding it, or at least not being so afraid of the unknown. But if you did that, people might think you were a news organization...

A Short Story on Foreign Politics, Economies and Budgets.
(Important reading for recent graduates and those looking for work)
In 1972 President Richard Nixon made the political decision to establish diplomatic relations with The People's Republic of China. That decision led to trade and economic agreements which allowed American Corporations to go to China to build factories whose products would be sold in the USA. No conditions were placed on the flux of capital and commercial technology. Corporations loved it because in China they initially paid wages of 25¢ cents per day (today it's 50 ¢ cents per day) and there is no FDA, no EPA and no OSHA to protect the general public from the greedy corporations who will sell tainted foods (melamine in baby formula, banned antibiotics in shrimp, contaminated dog food etc), cheap pharmaceuticals (products not meeting assay purity and quality nor approved or inspected by FDA), unsafe products (lead laden paint in toys and baby cribs, as well as mercury in consumer products) while polluting the oceans and the atmosphere, as long as it makes for big profits.
As a result, today 300 Million Chinese are the recipients of this so called economic "boom". However, there are 900 Million Chinese who are not part of this "boom". They are out in the countryside, waiting for any other corporations who might want to venture to China to produce cheaper products to eventually sell to the USA, Europe and the rest of the world. That includes building products from new inventions and new technology that is discovered or further developed. The obvious problem with this strategy leaves the question: who is going to buy these cheap products from them if the US and Europe don't have the manufacturing jobs that we once had because they are all now in China ????
This strategy is "Killing The Hen That Lays The Golden Eggs".
The problem is further compounded by the fact that India must be added to the equation as well.
Therefore we have 2 countries (China & India) with approximately 1.8 billion unemployed human beings living in poverty, waiting for any jobs to be taken to them by corporations, so they may produce "cheap products" to sell to Europeans, Americans and the rest of the world who cannot buy them because they don't have jobs now. !!!!????? I ask you: Does that make sense?
Unemployment can only get worse in the next decades, if we don't put a stop to it now!
How, you ask? We must insist, harangue, communicate to and repeat to our politicians that they must tell corporations (legislate it) that if they want to sell here, they must infuse 50% of the value of the product here. This means that they must make 50% of it here. That's the only way that we are ever going to get jobs back and emerge from the abyss of the economic doldrums that we are facing today.
Governments will probably enter into the conversation, but, that's OK, because it will probably mean the renegotiation of the Global Act on Trade, (GAT) and many other regional trade agreements anyway.
The unrest that we are hearing about in the Middle East, (Syria, Egypt, Lybia, and even Iran last year) is not just about Democracy. It's about jobs and having enough to stay alive. It's because their unemployment rates hover around 40-50% !!!!!!!!!!!!! .........And now they are losing even more jobs and opportunities also. It's the same problem facing the French, the Spanish, the Greeks, the Irish and the Italians of whose economic woes we hear about every day in the news.
Therefore, the motto must be: "if they want to sell here, they must infuse 50% of the value of the product here". Then, and only then will we begin to put our financial house in order, begin the road to balancing our City, County, State and National Budgets, and put people back to work and forget the squabbling.
