Ron Paul: 2012 Republican field cautious(CNN) – Republican Rep. Ron Paul said Tuesday his fellow Republicans' reluctance to get into the presidential race may have more to do with President Obama strengths than his weaknesses. In an exclusive interview for CNN's "In the Arena" with Eliot Spitzer to be broadcast at 8 p.m. ET Tuesday, the Texas congressman said the potential Republican presidential contenders are being "cautious." "They may believe that the president is stronger than most of the polls show," Paul said. "The president is liked a lot and in politics, being liked is very important. So, maybe they don't think he is as vulnerable as the polls indicate he might be." Paul is scheduled to formally announce his formation of a presidential exploratory committee, taking another step toward a bid for the GOP nomination. In a recent CNN Poll of Polls, 48 percent of Americans said they disapproved of Obama's handling of his job as president. President Obama's approval numbers dropped from 49 percent in January to 45 percent. Rep. Paul will join others who have announced the formation of a presidential exploratory committee, including former Republican Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, former Louisiana Gov. Buddy Roemer, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum and former Godfather's Pizza CEO Herman Cain. Paul, well-liked by some members of the Tea Party, has run for president twice, in 1988 as a nominee for the Libertarian Party and in 2008 for the Republican nomination. In February, Paul won the straw poll at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) for the second year in a row, beating Romney. CNN kept reporting they would show the announcement by Ron Paul today and never did. And this was just after a segment where the anchor and guest were wondering why RP and his supporters felt dissed (anchors words) by the major media in 2008.
They had more important stuff to talk about. Like the Aflac duck. CNN is so worthless.
Eliot,
Why can't you shut up during your interviews? You asked questions and don't let people answer without interrupting them or saying, "Let's switch gears." Please work on your listening skills. Otherwise, your show is impossible to watch.
So true.
I agree with Dave, worst interview I've ever seen. Spitzer is the most rude, arrogant, self centered host I have ever witness. Surprised he just doesn't use a mirror and spar with himself as he sure doesn't let the guest get a word in edgewise. Will never watch his show again. CNN can do better.
It would be very interesting (and telling) if one were to calculate, in percenrages, how long Ron Paul was allowed to speak, versus the amount of time Eliot Spitzer was talking and/or interupting Ron Paul. Furthermore, I would be interested in how often Spitzer let Paul finish a statement. Obviously, it would denote some rather poor journalism wherein Eliot Spitzer attempted to impress us with his ego based pride in "intellectual sparring." Mr. Spitzer, please stick to journalism and consider an apology to Rep. Paul.
Mr. Spitzer, if you feel my comments are unwarranted, please reply to my e-mail.
On youtube Ron Paul's speech at 2011 CPAC can be played. Wow! I am not a libertarian, but Ron Paul gives quite a defense of the libertarian cause. He addresses the shortcomings of a foreign policy based on invading other countries. And he gives the most powerful defense of "liberty" that I have ever heard from the mouth of a politician. His philosophical concerns about the American future deserve attention.
I had the same reaction back in 2008 when I stumbled across him, lol. Don't be surprised when you hear people call him a crackpot or mention things that sound outlandish. Whenever you hear about something that is supposedly "crazy" about Ron Paul, remember that he is a man of integrity and then look into it for yourself. You might find, as I did, that his reasons for voting the way he has, and for saying and believing the things he does, are rooted in nuanced and thoughtful logic. I believe he's shown a lot of courage in acting as he has, and I have a lot of respect for him. RP2012!
I thought Mr. Spitzer had Ron Paul backed into a corner. I say this in the most positive way. Paul espouses a libertarian ideology about how things should be but when questioned about the specifics, his argument for less government falls apart. Kudos Eliot!
Were we watching the same interview? Every time Ron Paul tried to respond Spitzer cut him off and went off another tangent. I found this interview to be very unprofessional.
I agree, Spitzer needs to zip it for a second and let the good Doc talk. He's from Texas, that New York rudeness doesn't cut it, and he's too kind to call you on it.
Dear Eliot,
You are interviewing. Ask your guest a question and let him speak. Do not cut him off or try to speak all over him. That's called being rude. Let your guest speak and then you can ask him further question when he is finished.
I will vote for Ron Paul if he and the GOP run on a campaign to eliminate the "Person" status afforded to corporations.
I will also vote for him if he can tell me where his boss GE buried the money. GE PAID NO TAXES THIS YEAR. One should never forget that the GOP, GE and BIG OIL wrote the TAX CODES. They are as adorable as those three little pigs in Orwell's "Animal Farm." The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist; and like that.....puffffff.....he was gone.
My advisor, Der Doctor Strangelove, came up with an astonishingly good idea. His idea is to take these three little pigs into abandoned mine shafts and "slaughter" them.
I will vote for Ron Paul. Eliot learn to listen and shut up. You are the worst interviewer I've ever watched. Having a conversation with someone is suppose to be both ways. All I heard was your big mouth. Next time SHUT UP! We really just wanted to hear Ron Paul and his views, not yours. Your not running for President.
You really need to work on your listening skills.
That was rough. I like Mr. Spitzer, but he would not let Dr. Paul finish a sentence. I now consider him to be the liberal Bill O'Reilly. Mr. Spitzer wanted Ron on his turf at all times, and when Ron began to explain his intellect, Sptizer would "swtich gears". I like to see Dr. Paul under pressure, but not when the interviewer is going to trample over every point. That was just embarrassing Mr. Spitzer.
It seems like Mr.Spitzer is not even attempting to understand the logic behind what Ron Paul is saying.
Media packaged and sold Obama to the public just like Justin Beiber. Like a rock star. No experience, all hype!
