E.D. Hill and Will Cain: Meet the newbiesCNN launched In the Arena, our new 8pm show on Monday, Feb. 28, 2011. ![]() As always, newsmakers, experts, journalists and contributors will join Eliot Spitzer each night. E.D. Hill and Will Cain are now part of the In the Arena ensemble, and others within and outside the CNN family will be joining the program as well. The 8pm hour has become a centerpiece of substantive, policy-oriented conversation, and we are looking forward to building on that with this new format. Simply put, the new program will look beyond the headlines to analyze and discuss the most important stories of the day. The program will provide context and analysis through balanced and thoughtful discussions and interviews with a wide range of guests and newsmakers who cumulatively represent various points of view. You may have seen E.D. Hill and Will Cain on CNN before, but we thought you might want to know a little more about them. E.D. Hill is an author and television host. From 1998 to 2008, Hill served as host for several programs on Fox News Channel including Fox and Friends, Fox News Live and America’s Pulse. She also co-hosted Bill O’Reilly’s Radio Factor for five years and filled in for Bill O’Reilly on The O’Reilly Factor. ![]() Prior to Fox News, Hill was an anchor for WABC-TV in New York from 1992 to 1995. From 1990 to 1992, she served as an anchor for WHDH-TV in Boston. Hill also was a guest co-host on ABC’s The View in the recent years. In 2005, Hill authored her first book, a collection of personal profiles entitled “Going Places: How America’s Best and Brightest Got Started Down the Road of Life”. Her second book, “I’m Not Your Friend, I’m Your Parent,” was published in the U.S. 2007 and translated into Chinese and released in China in 2010. WILL CAIN is a licensed attorney, media entrepreneur, and host of “Off the Page” on National Review.com. Cain also produces the Internet interview program “Cain and Table,” focusing on the intersection between politics and non-political topics, such as pop-culture and sports. ![]() Cain founded Quince Media, a Hispanic media company that produced websites, magazines and events across the country. Cain also owned Cain Communications, a community newspaper group in Texas that published print and online newspapers to the Dallas community. Cain earned the prestige of being named one of the “40 Most Influential People” in the Magazine Industry by Folio Magazine 2007 and one of the “20 Under 40″ by the Texas Press Association in 2005. Eliot, E.D. and Will welcome your feedback on the program and your suggestions on what we cover. |

Spitze talks too much and never lets a conservative express her/his point.
Spitzer's conversation is at least well informed and measured. We can all do without Hill's uninformed teenage hysteria. Cain is better informed, but so absolutely, predictably, and stridently opposed to any viewpoint that Spitzer puts forward that he seems incapable of giving it honest consideration. Just two nights and we've already turned off In the Arena – will wait for Anderson Cooper for solid news and opinion.
I react the same to E D Hill's verbal attacks. She is so rude, inturrupting and talking over the guest, that I cringe. Unless CNN can teach her some manners quickly, I'm afraid they will lose my viewership. What a shame that would be since I enjoy watching Spitzer, he can be intense and passionate about his positions but is polite and respectful, unlike Ms Hill.
Couldn't agree more!!! Love Elliot and how informed he is on all subjects. They have go to come up with better co-hosts. We have turned off due to E D Hill and Will Cain. It is a terrible matchup. I don't want to see Elliot gone but this is not working. CNN you can do better
Just wanted to say, so sorry to see Kathleen Parker leave the show. I know nothing about the male cohost you have hired, but I want to say I strongly dislike E.D.Hill. Now after looking her up, I remember why. She is a snippy person, who acts like very much of a "know it all" and is very rude. She argues just like the Fox alumni that she is – not always on substance, but very in your face and not allowing a person to speak. She is not a nice person and she rubs me the wrong way. I enjoy the show, but I am not sure how long I can stand to watch her carry on at people. If she were intelligent and knew what she was talking about, that might be different, but I don't feel that is the case. She is not the intellect that Elliot Spitzer is and she is way out of her league!
I totally agree on E.D. Hill. She is ruining what is a fairly decent show.
It's good to see E.D. Hill back on television. She is strong willed and seems to be able to have civil, yet feisty, discourse with Spitzer and company. It is CNN's fortune to grab up the women that Fox finds undesireable. I get to see Kiran Chetry in the morning and E.D. Hill in the evening.
watch fox news if you want to listen to conservatives
Will Cain, just go away. Your statements are inciting and pointless as well as biased and have no back up for what you are stating. Er umm should I say lieing? Or is Political Correctness not allowing the Truth anymore?
After T.J. Holmes , E.D. Hill is like chalk squeeking on a chalk board. She talks too fast, she interrupts and she needs to be replaced quickly!
I do not agree with Mr. Spitzer on a lot of political issues but I LOVE the fact that he has done his homework on every subject he brings to the table. He is also the only CNN host who had the GUTS to tell the Iranian mouthpiece that He is full of Doo Doo and Iran is not a free country. You may not agree with him but you know he knows his game, he won't back down from the issues, and I respect that.
Except most of the facts are goofey left wing drivel. He does have the ability to come off sounding like he knows his stuff, but he doesnt give others a chance. Hanity is the same on fox. ED Hill knows her stuff and most complaints about her here are from lefties who cant stand spitzer being effectivley challenged. I dont normally watch CNN spitzer alot but with hill on there I will now watch it regularly to see spiter get a decent run for his left wing deranged money.
I listen very carefully to Elliot Spencer and find much of what he says worth thinking about and considering; not so much with e.d. hill. I can listen to Rush Limbaugh and get the same canned message of the day. What a waste of time. I'll go back to watching the local news during that hour. Certainly more original than the mess delivered by CNN (I will watch Elliot Spencer anytime, just not when he is forced to seriously consider the trained garble delivered by e d hill.
cnn has been beaten so bad by fox news, it has decided to be 51% democratic opinions and 49% conservative not republican but consevative. i am so disapointed i decided to look at fox news knowing i will conpletely understand their positions. i ques if you get beat bad enough you will abandon your core principals and the people who made you. God Bless you Ted Turner
I've watched the show from the beginning and have always appreciated Eliot Spitzer's desire and ability to discuss substantive policy issues. I was looking forward to the revised format, however last night's show was a huge let-down. I was completely unnerved by E.D. Hill's performance and her apparent lack of willingness or capacity to choose substance over style. It was difficult to watch. I think Will Cain has done well overall, however he doesn't demonstrate a depth of policy knowledge or real policy experience to engage in meaningful debate with Eliot. When he doesn't have a good response to a particular topic, he'll shout out something off point or try to talk over everyone else. I have hope that CNN can find a good blend of people who are capable of participating in thoughtful, intelligent and engaging discourse without it devolving into a partisan free-for-all. Is it really that hard to find charismatic, articulate conservative policy specialists who can represent conservative perspectives in meaningful substantive discussions?
I couldn't agree more. Hill and Cain have no depth. If the show must have a team, then I vote for someone who has the ability to engage in a meaniful debate.
You're too kind. ED Hill is a true air head. CNN has lost me viership because she has no credibility. I guess she comes cheap. I probably watch every no and then to be reminded of how far CNN has moved away from real news programming. In such serious times we need serious news reporters. I really hope this show fail and fail quickly.
I love how Spitzer can do the news during breaking news events. Can't imagine O'Reilly doing that. I also love how Spitzer doesn't really SHOUT in your face. I hope his show is balanced.. Two Conservatives vs Spitzer is better than Bill O'Reilly and a Conservative that kisses his butt vs a liberal made to look like a fool.
CNN isn't known for opinion, so I'm interested to see how they do. But I also find it sad.. because CNN has been the only news network not to go opinion.. so when In The Arena launched, I can't help it but say R.I.P. American news networks. Then again, there was Larry King for 2 decades. Can't say Larry King was a journalist. "Do you agree with this man when he says murder is bad?" Such hard reporting, Larry King.
One thing I'd say, what would make In The Arena more interesting.. you got the new background and opening going. How about changing the text graphics a little? And get a news ticker? I don't get why I can't get some news at the bottom.
Spitzer is a strong character. He comes at you with his usual friendly charm, but he has debating prowess not seen since the likes of Tim Russert. With that in mind, its no wonder CNN has trouble finding someone of equal caliber to throw debate against him. I feel the show needs another attorney instead of the typical web columnists you see populating 24h news cycle.
Eliot, if you're reading this, please bring in an experienced politician as a co-host who can stand toe to toe with you. I'm saying this as a liberal democrat who wants to see a fair fight. Also, give Fareed a daily world politics analysis segment. I hate having to wait till GPS to see what his take is on the day to day happenings around the world.
To me, E D Hill's contribution to the first In The Arena show amounted to little more than bombast and angry pontification. Surely there is more to conservative thought than polemics and talking points instead of facts and reasoning.
In the show's last segment with Hill and Cain, the object seemed to "entertain" the audience with a two against one tag team match. Opinion based on facts and reasoning can become heated, but three people trying to talk over each other was a total waste of time and persuasive of no conclusion other than that there is a need to reconfigure this segment. Or lose viewers.
Eliot Spitzer is brilliant. I look forward to the show every night but until you get rid of Hill and Cain I shall no longer be tuning in.I can't believe you would put him on the same table with them.
When CNN put Elliot on at 8 p.m, I thought they were getting in the game again. But pairing him with Parker was silly because she was no match in depth and knowledge, and it was a relief when she quit. But now putting on an obnoxiously angry screed like E D Hill and an immature college dorm debater like Will Cain shows that CNN's brass really don't get it. If we wanted to listen to hateful right wing gibberish, we'd just switch to Fox. If you insist on presenting a counter point in the same show, then at least get some one who has some intellectual credentials.
I completely agree with other posters that e.d. hill and cain are simply no intellectual match for Spitzer. Why weigh him down with these mediocre level intellects?
Certainly there must be some other possible co-hosts that you can find?
There is such an intellectual mismatch that CNN really needs to do something about this!
Remove e.d. hill and cain before you sink Elliot Spitzer. Please.
To the producers of The Arena–
Please stop torturing us and remove Will Cain . Tonight the show has been very insightful with an all-star line up of Gloria Borger, Elliot Spitzer and Nic Robertson etc. And, then we are subject to Will Cain. The clueless question that he asked Nic Robertson concerning "whether the opposition forces in Libya are enthusiastic or despondent" about passage of the UN Resolution evidenced that Will Cain is not by any interpretation up to the job. Despondent???? It makes no sense. The opposition has been begging for help.
Listening to Will Cain pose his questions is like hearing nails screeching on a chalk board. Please give us some relief!
With Elliot Spitzer, Gloria and your usual team of reporters you could have an award winning show. You hobbled that show with Will Cain and E. D. Hill... but maybe you have had the good sense to give Ms. Hill the hook. Now you need to relieve us of Will Cain who is a piker compared to Elliot Spitzer and Gloria Berger and your usual line up.
If we wanted to see the likes of E. D. Hill and Will Cain...we would watch Fox.
I think this is a good move for CNN. It will take two conservitive to equal the knowledge and brain power of Elliot. I am not sure these two are up to the task, but let's give them a try.
E.D. Hill really has not clue about issues or policy. She has demonstrated that time and agin. Cain seems capable. I am thinking with more grooming he might shine. But Spizter can handle this show on his own. Without some talking mouthpieces to yell at us.What he needs is a counter part that is not an idiot (Hill) or an amateur (Cain.)
Here we had a show that was intelligent, thoughtful, accurate. Someone to counter him, with intelligence and insight, then that would be a great show. Now, it is not worth watching. Which is a shame as without Parker, this show could have really been something. Seems the producers for this time slot really have no clue what to do with it.
I watched yesterdays show and if this is the new Parker Spitzer I'm gonna start watching something else. Parker you got slammed yesterday allowing those two morons to talk nonsense and you didn't even bother to bring them back to reality. Now I see you have them on again. I think I will just go play World of Warcraft. At least there, I can argue with people there that talk the same kind of nonsense as these two. I will check in later in the week to see if the show I started watching originally where there's actually thinking people on has come back.
CNN isn't Fox News. Get rid of E D Hill. I won't watch.
I'm in total agreement. If E.D Hill stays, I'm not going to watch. If I wanted to listen to FOX garbage, I would watch Fox News.
If Spitzer stays I will not watch. He has NO credibility.
I am not impressed with the new line up of hosts. In particular I take issue with E D Hill. This show is clearly for the intellectual viewer and I hate to see the show stoop to fox news standards. This is an insult to all CNN viewers. Elliott needs a better panel.
Sorry CNN – but you have seriously failed the 8 pm viewer this time.
SOOOO sad. Really loved this show. Why can't Elliot go on solo? Why do we need the shrill and ridiculous E.D Hill and the arrogant narcissist Will Cain? I can take Will in small doses but he is way to ideologically entrenched and it affects his viewpoint and he plays loose with facts to serve his arguments.
I can't watch anymore and I am sad.
You have succinctly described Will Cain and helped to clarify for me why I find him hard to take in large doses! Arrogant, and ideologically entrenched...Thank you!
I loved the Parker Spitzer combination, and was a faithful viewer each evening. I am very sorry that Kathleen Parker felt uncomfortable with the format, and is no longer with the show. I wish her all the best, and will look forward to reading her column each week in my local Sunday paper! Eliot is brilliant...quick thinking and well-informed about the issues. He definitely could carry the show as the sole host, although I do like the format which also presents a different point of view.I did not see the show last night, but in comparison to what was said about last night's show, tonight's seemed a bit "toned down" on the part of Hill and Cain. I've read all the comments from both evenings, and perhaps CNN will need to continue to look for the right "fit" for a co-host with Eliot. At any rate, I like him enough not to give up on the show just yet! Suggestions: keep focusing public awareness on the Koch brothers and how their money machine (Americans for Prosperity) is threatening our democratic system and building the power of the Tea Party, also keep hammering the point that Wisconsin's financial woes should not be solved on the backs of public employees when the state gives the wealthy tax breaks. This new show is a work in progress...hope it will keep evolving, but Eliot should be the constant!
Of course, National Review, too, a Fox Propaganda Clone, and a myth maker from National Review. Pure perdictable rubbish. Show me in world history the empirical cases where gaps in income and gaps in education have created organic growth. 30 years of fiscal expansion by Republicans have given us the worst economic shock and conditions in American history. You've given us the worst set of leadership in American history – a college drop out in Wisconsin, a quitter in Alaska, and set of trophies for the Koch brothers.
Eliot get out of there. You can run any organization in the world or get any show in world. Get out of desperate attempt to talk to freerepublic and the Kochbots.
Evidently Hill and Cain are there to generate some tension by being conservative foils to Spitzer. In what I've seen so far, they express strong opinion without very rationale bases. I would be better of watching back episodes of Charlie Rose on the web.
Spitzer is too smart for these Republicans! I don't think CNN will be able to match his intelligence. I feel sorry for the people who go up against him. E.D. Hill? Give me a break. Fox news hires people with little knowledge and lots of patriotic hot air. Why CNN would hire anyone from that network is a mystery to me. II wanted to cry watching Kathleen Parker try to match intellect with this guy. Now CNN has hired two new light weights and they will have as many problems as Kathleen. I hope MSNBC offers Spitzer a job. Spitzer is smarter than all of the CNN news people!!!
Barbara, I competely agree. Hill and Cain are no match for Elliot. Whats more they are both boring.
The addition of E D Hill has downgraded the professionalism of this show. Eliot's experience, depth of knowledge and professionalism makes for informative and interesting exchanges. E D Hill lacks both professionalism and any depth of knowledge and her elevated, combative tone doesn't mask her lack of knowledge. Will Cain does display professionalism and he displays some knowledge level, but is way out of the ball park sitting next to Eliot. I hope this isn't a permanent change. I'd rather just watch Eliot who professionally, intelligently and thoroughly addresses all sides of issues with guests.
I enjoy and learn from Spitzer. I changed the station after listening to Hill and Cain two nights in a row. They are shills for the conservative agenda. If i want to hear their swill I'll watch Fox News. i don't consider either Hill or Cain debaters.
I watched the show tonight and istened carefully to the discussion, I think the combination of Hill, Cain on one side and Mr Spitzer on another. Hill was as usual far right, down with Union and Democrats, that is fine perhaps if she provide objective views. Cain knowlegdes and understanding of Capital Gain Tax cuts vs Cut to Education Funding is naive and some what simplistic.
I would be interested to have Cain provide us with historical evidence for the past 20 years showing that cut to capital gain has provided jobs and or turned the economy around as he discribed it on tonight show.
Cuts to Capotal gain tax mostly provide more profit than jobs, on the other hand cut to the general income tax will provide additional disposable income that would ultimatley end up in the market place boosting the economy triggering job growth.
They can generate tensions, as Larry had mentioned. But these two just sound like Fox News. CNN is or WAS better than that. Still knocking my head on wall as the why they chose E.D. Hill. Maybe next week they will get someone from Fox and Friends. Just to make Hill look smarter. Ugh! After tonight's episode of In the Arena, I like when he was alone. But, now I will not watch for a few weeks. Maybe CNN Producers willl get a clue. That is fire the producers who had the idea for this show, and put in producers who are capable of making choices that we, an intelligent audience, will go for.
Hill and Cain are not those "intelligent" choices. But neither was Parker, but the show had to start somewhere.
Suggestion: Lose Hill and Cain.
E D Hill and Cain are a huge disappointment. Combined, they don't equal one intelligent and eloquent person. Elliot Spitzer is eons above them in intelligence. Anderson Cooper, Piers Morgan, fareed do their shows alone, Eliot should too.
Putting lightweights on with him ruins the dialogue. I am going to read books rather than watch this new combination.
We can only hope that Ms. Hill can mature and develope. Right now I can only take about 1 minute and I am on the net looking for rational point counter point. Will may or may not develope if he can avoid falling into Hill's poor presentation and form. Maybe you should just give Jeff Toobin some solo time to discuss law and the implication that lawhas on D.C. politics. At least it would be an intelligent presentation.
William, You are dead on. I feel that CNN is "Foxing" this time slot. It's pretty sad to watch such a respected "news" brand stoop to someone like ED Hill. Can't they that the sight of her on send people to Fox News to watch the clowns. Now when I see Hill I think "Clown News Network." Hell CNN should heavily recruit the guy we all miss a lot – Keith Olbermann. Give him whatever he wants but get him to rescue this brand from the clowns.
Elliot Spitzer is brillain for this spot. However, Edie Hill & Will nobody are awful! Their presence drops the show to a lower level. This awful will cannot even muster enough respect for the position, that he cannot even put on a tie. Guess its back to msnbc.
I agree with the decision to replace Kathleen, her best skills are in other areas. Spitzer, I do not enjoy the "Eddie & Will" show, they are pompous and arrogant and do not appear to be open to any views or discussions other than their own strong opinions. The political balance is absent, and I sensed your discomfort in trying to get back in control of your new show, and it didn't work. Dump the "Eddie & Will" show so I can enjoy your openess and knowledge on the subjects of discussion. As it is, I can barely suffer through the show with "Eddie and Will" present.
Well, at least E.D. Hill is hot! However, that's probably not the right intellectual skill set that's needed to counter balance Spitzer's superior and aggressive intellect.
Elliot Spitzer...smart, interesting, asks good questions. New guys Hill and Cain need to go! Do not find them smart or interesting. Am an avid CNN watcher....but not at 8:00 anymore!
The newbies have the enthusiasm, ideas, and depth of 6 year olds. But Spitzer shines. As much as I initially groaned to learn that another scandal-dipped celeb was being inflicted on us, I've come to admire Spitzer's intellect, his curiosity, his originality, and his directness; some of the guests have been excellent too. The LIbyan prof that spoke so thoughtfully eloquently tonight is an example. If CNN would ditch those two WingNuts, it would actually, finally, against all odds, thank-you-sweet-jesus provide excellent programming.
First time I watched tonight. Outstanding! Finally, some good programming in this news slot. I'm glad to see Elliot with the gloves off. I welcome honest dialogue between the right and left. I was glad to see that Elliot did not let the state senator (R) from Wisconsin off the hook when he would not answer the fairness question about trying to break the right to collective bargaining. Go Elliot!
We have really enjoyed watching Parker/Spitzer since its debut. It was disappointing when Parker left, however Spitzer is enough to keep us watching. But... what were you thinking with ED Hill as a regular on The Arena. She is way out of her league and this is not a show that requires window dressing.
I agree with many who have already posted, that Eliot Spitzer, you have been doing an amazing job at CNN. I tend to lean conservative so it is great to see someone from the left with this much talent who actually knows his stuff and can back it up. I love how you can actually articulate a substantive coherent argument. Simply put, well done. Please bring others from different views that can actually stand toe to toe with you. New fan and supporter here.
I don't usually spend much time commenting on the internet, but after watching tonight's show I had to see if anyone actually liked the two new conservative mouthpieces. After scanning all of the comments, I didn't see a single favorable review of E.B. Hill, and just a few lukewarm comments about Will Cain. I think just about anyone who wants to hear the standard conservative talking points is already tuning in to Fox, so I'm not sure what CNN was thinking here. There are certainly viewers, as expressed here, that would like to see honest debate about the issues. Clearly Spitzer is up to the task, but without an equally informed, serious and reasonable conservative foil to him, the show falls flat. I was hoping to see a show aimed at thinking people who are open to hearing both sides of an issue. Apparently that is asking for too much these days.
This is definitely good for the show. Spitzer was the star. I can't imagine anyone watched for Kathleen. E.D. is even more dull than Kathleen though. You definitely need to let Will and Spitzer handle things, with a focus around Spitzer. It seems even if the idea of the show is to include someone stupid like E.D., that Elliot is just too smart and she won't survive because of lack of intelligence anyway. I don't agree with Will at all but at least he puts forth good arguments and they have riveting debate.
well, CNN, you lost me again. mr. spitzer is a rather spirited but not shrill, which cannot be said for ms. hill. she is most annoying. mr. cain is bearable. surely CNN can find an intelligent, thoughtful (more) conservative host/hostess. i very much liked kathleen parker.
What a brilliant pairing of Eliot Spitzer and E.D. Hill. Watched the first two and enjoyed it. Just wish CNN would repeat the shows for people, like me who are not always available at 8 PM. They keep repeating Piers Morgan and Anderson Cooper during the night, would you PLEASE add IN THE ARENA to the late night repeats?
My personal opinion is simple I watch CNN because I don't like the F-word channel. So, I don't want to watch F-word lite smirk their lame views here. Parker was interesting because she didn't spout the party line. Maybe that made her dull but I miss her.
These new parrots on the "right" are going to push away viewers. Your choice CNN. Don't try to breed more dobbeckies.
Agreed that Spitzer is well-informed and well-spoken. He is more than capable of carrying the show without the two side-kicks Hill and Cain. These two individuals appear to have no solid background in foreign policy and, I would assume, have never been on the ground in the places they are speaking about. For Hill, being a news reader doesn't quality, nor, for Cain, does willing awards in Texas.
I had just begun to tune into Spitzer and now...Hill and Cain. What a disappointment. Neither can hold their own with Spitzer and that's not just because he has a "big personality". It's because they come off as ditzy and ill informed (maybe they could get away with light weight, simplistic responses in their old venues); Spitzer may be playing catch up on international issues and his questions sometimes show it but he holds forth with thoughtful responses, opinions and analysis. Fareed Zakaria is always a brilliant addition and his dynamic with Spitzer is good. I feel as though CNN just invited two teenagers (Hill and Cain) aboard to look pretty. Not good enough.
I can only hope the producers see these comments and actually do something about the show. Getting rid of Hill and Cain is a start. I can only think they will make this show what it could be. and not this nonsense we see now.
Hill and Cain are simply not liked. That is that. Let Spitzer have his own show. We could use the does in intellectualism.
I enjoy listening to Elliot Spitzer. He is well informed and intelligent. Can't stand E.D. Hill and her very loud brash voice pontificating without the facts.
Loved the show until E D Hill came on – too cutesy and loud and aggressively gesticulating in lieu of cogent thoughts. Too strident a voice to even process. Cain also annoying and can't keep his hands still. Distracting, can't even follow what he says. One needs a calm mature person with Spitzer. Let him be there alone!!!!!!!!! Why not. So smart and well-informed. Why have those teenagers there. OMG. Can hardly watch now, and it used to be my favorite news show.
ok, I watched the show again. Just as maybe I like punishment. It is officially unwatchable. Now I will not watch this show again. Not until there are intelligent changes.
Spitzer could do this show on his own. It will pull ratings, no doubt. By the favorable and passionate comments I see here, I know he has an audience. Maybe Eliot and Fareed on the same show. Now that would be the smartest hour on television.
This new E.D Hill, like my mother in law said "give me a pain where a pill can't reach.." I like Spitzer but if that woman
stay on the show i will prefer watching Fox!...Can't believe I am even saying this!
E.D and Will are runing this show! Is this really the best CNN had to replace Kathleen. E.D. and Will act like attack dogs from FOX.
I cannot believe CNN would hire someone as rude and so full of herself as E.D. Hill. She was on a few times before Ms. Parker left and my husband and I found her totally obnoxious.I enjoy Mr. Spitzer,he is intelligent and asks pertinent questions and actually listens to responses. Hill prefers to hear herself and unfortunately all she spouts is noise. We have watched faithfully since Parker/Spitzer first aired but we are tuning in infrequently now mainly because of Ms. Hill. CNN should rethink their decision to add her to the program since I believe she will take any ratings they have down.
I am wondering why the Wisconsin issue related to collective bargaining rights is not referred to the UN. We went through the same scenario about 5 years ago in BC, Canada when Gordon Campbell (then Premier) introduced a Bill which attempted to deny public sector workers of their rights to collective bargaining. The BC Federation of Labor sued the Province and the case went to the UN with the outcome that the right to peaceful collective decision making is a 'human right' and can not be taken away from workers!!
I enjoy listening to Spitzer
Spitzer is a highly intelligent, well informed person. On the other hand E.D Hill is a brash, loud mouthed ,confrontational person who when she starts her attacks, I simply want to turn off the show.
Spitzer states facts that are inaccurate and does so in such a way as to make them sound like they are superior intellectually. When fact checked they not accurate. His ex host wasn't able to overcome his narcissistic personality even though she was clearly an intelligent and thoughtful host. I love the addition of ED hill. She is much more aggressive and will challenge the Spitzer drivel.
With ED hill the rating will go up...
E D will make this a better show. I'm sure all the lefies hate to see her on the show. She knows her stuff. Sorry, she isn't still on FOX.
Here is my final thought on this. With a network that has the likes of Zakaria, Gergen, Rollins, Candy Crowley, now Spitzer and others. We, the audience, are used to a certain amount of intelligence, fact checking, and no talking point along party lines, in our news and discussion. Yes, we ARE that smart an audience. We do not watch Fox for obvious reasons. We do not like to be told what to think. And we like facts and accountability. We do not watch MSNBC as we do not like all the yelling. (Believe it or not, not all Republicans are the enemy.) So, to give us a show that had great potential and turn into a showcase for Cain and Hill is a disaster. Hill clearly is out of her league. But, hey, she got he training of FOX. Did we expect knowledge of the issues? An understanding of policy? A wide lens view on the world and social issues? No, we did not. And Cain, as nice as I think he maybe, is clearly in over his head. So, now, at 8PM, I will now read some news on the internet instead. At least it will be thought provoking and educational. That, by the way, is what Spitzer brought to the show. Now, it is not worth watching. Even for the segments where he is on by himself. CNN seems to be missing the point on this. And all these passionate posts on the subject do indeed generate passion and debate. But it is not a positive one. For each negative comment on here, CNN loses a viewer. And those viewer will tell others when asked what the think of the new "In the Arena." With ratings under 500,000, you think CNN might be rather alarmed at this. For the first time in years, CNN finally has a show with potential in the 8PM time slot. Now it is a joke. The joke, of course, is the producers who made the decision to bring on Hill and Cain.
Whew, that was a long one.
I LOVE E. D. Hill! She is the only reason I watch CNN at all, but I cannot tolerate Spitzer's uber-left wing drivel. CNN should have fired him instead of his ex-co host.
I adore E.D.Hill and have missed her on Fox and Friends ever since she was replaced by the dingy Gretchen Carlson. This may lure me away for at least one hour a week from the phenomenally successful and, accordingly, reviled, FNC.
Is Dad E D Hill's dad,. because no one but a relative. and sometimes not a relative, would think ED Hill would make ratings go up. Instead how about down or turn to another network. She is yuck city.
Gerry, you sound like a yucky leftist. Sit back and watch the show's ratings zoom.
You have been missed. You were one of the good ones. Lets spread the word.
Surely CNN can find a conservative female who can formulate a cohesive, persuasive and sound argument without resorting to incivility. It's disappointing and, somewhat, insulting. How about Nicole Wallace?
E.D., it's GREAT to see you again!! You did a great job on Fox & Friends. CNN is very fortunate to have you. Best Wishes!
I don't see E. D being rude or disrespectful. She is there to express an opinion, not to get "steam rollered" Why do liberals fear strong, intelligent women? Ask those women, conservative men accept them to a greater extent as equals.

Eliot Spitzer has earned my viewership. He's well informed and can defend whatever opinion he puts out there. However, I cannot stomach either Hill and Cain's voices. They may be fine print journalists, but they do not belong on international television–their voices are like nails on a chalk board. I simply cannot watch (or listen) to them.
Spitzer is great, intelligent, well informed, an original thinker. E.D Hill ,Oh Lord help us. She is horrible and hasn't a clue what she is talking or actually yelling about. Will Cain- not even close to ready for prime time.
Leave Elliot Spitzer alone to interview guests . CNN give us some substance and trust Spitzer .He can obviously carry this show alone.
CNN Programming Directors, I never blog, and when I do it's when I feel VERY strongly about something. Please do yourselves and your viewership a favor, and relieve us of Will Cain. Absolutely intolerable, insufferable and painful to watch. Arrogant, trite, combative, conceded, and a horror show sitting next to an intelligent, informed, polished and professional journalist (Eliot Spitzer). I would hope that CNN can see what an absolute train wreck this is. Please, please read the above contents of this blog, listen to your viewership, and do us all a favor – 86 Will Cain and replace him with ANYONE, before many of us tune out... permenantly.
Should be called "The Castaways" at least in regard to Sptizer and Hill. They are both an awkward fit. I’d rather watch The Factor. -Sorry.
Love Will Cain, he is fabulous, however, I agree Hill not so good. Obvious Will and Eliot are fantastic and both
extremely intelligent.
Eliot Spitzer is a smart and informed person; a pleasure to be with and listen to for an hour. However, he should remove E.D. and Will; they are argumentive and aggravating to watch; just like spoiled brats; and they don't know as much as they think they know.
I can't watch the show anymore. You have just lost another viewer due to the E.D. Hill and Will Cain cacophony. It is a torture listening to those two.
There are good people that CNN can draw on to round out the show....Gloria Borger was a terrific guest. Surely you can do better than Hill and Cain. Remove those two and I am back.
OMG say it is not true? watched last night in disbelief E D Hill???? send her back to Fox
what has happened to CNN?
CNN realized that they needed some intelligent people thats what happened. Of course morons like you wouldnt understand that now, would you? You and your ilk are like sheep afraid to think or make a decision like yourself. what time will you be jumping off the bridge? Id like to watch
Remove E D Hill and Will Cain. They have no insight. They should go back to FOX where they fit right in.
Get off of ED Hills back you guys who are so liberal you cannot accept a woman coming back at Spitzer? Parker was very much way to quiet and not a challenge to Spitzer? I liked her, she is a sharp lady but not up against Spitzer? ED had alot of personality on Fox, but I think she got to be too old for some at the top of Fox mgmt. Fox wanted the cutesy, younger blond types so they found a way to get rid of ED Hill for an off the wall negative comment she made about Mrs. Obama? Cannot even remember what the comment was, but to fire her when did Fox get to be that PC and yet Beck is a racist and can say almost anything that is crazy and he is still there?. Give ED a chance and some time to work her way in with Spitzer. She was not really a total Fox follower more an Independent like I have become after years of voting Republican? . If she cannot make it after awhile with Spitzer then give her a chance on a few of the afternoon news shows she can handle it? I now no longer am a Fox fan, I woke up and realized they are not fair and balanced so CNN viewer give ED a chance and not be so biased. She is actually a pretty cool lady. when you get to know her.
I now know why your momma named you dusty..because she turned u upside down and used ur head as a dustmop. You are such a stupid person undeserving of real talent and real news.
I have been watching Spitzer since the show began and have enjoyed his intelligence and broad base of knowledge but I can't stand his two recent co-host, E.D. Hill and Will Cane. Spitzer doesn't need them and they offer little of value to the conversation. Please, remove them from the show! Spitzer does fine by himself.
Spitzer should be a star on his own. Similar to when Greta Van Sustern's co host was canned (Roger Cossack) Elliott should be on his own. ED is unwatchable. She was horrible on FOX and Friends. She is not credible, her voice is too raspy, and she is just downright annoying–almost as much as Steve Deucey on FOX who wins the prize of biggest tool on TV.
Ill watch Elliott for now but shut it off when ED comes on. Soon as I find a new show in this time slot im done with In The Arena. ED should not even be on CNN!
Send E.D Hill and Will Cain back to Fox. What was a very good news program with Elliott is now more of a Hannity and Rush type complaining and whining. Please CNN use them sparingly.......
I have never understood why liberal women and their men find E.D. Hill as a threat. Unlike most TV women, Ms Hill tells it like she see's it.... without some party hack giving her a new set of marching orders every morning. Also, heaven forbid, Ms. Hill sees responsible motherhood as an honorable duty.
I am very impressed with Mr. Cain. He is very smart and a good challenger to Spitzer. He is also very handsome. Great combination. Question? Where has he been? It is now May 5th and I have seen him for some time. Spitzer is losing my interest rapidly. Spitzer is so in love with Obama that I am wondering if it is carrying over into the bedroom?? Puke.
Spitzer has to interrupt and clarify, way too often. He is more interested in what he has to say than the guest! Boring!
I just found out why E.D. Hill reminds me of one of those FOX stupid people...she was one. Really...
Will was better before he became for arrogant.
It's all a shame because Elliot brings a thoughtful opinion to the table if he'd just let the conservatives express their opinions and engage in a dialog that would be informative to the viewers.
I think the show is one of the better political shows on. I think Elliot does a good job of listening to opposing opinions while at the same time driving home his point. ED seems to be really coming around and able to do the same as well as being easy on the eyes. The one thing that this country needs more of is the ability to listen to opposing view points and I think this show is making an attempt to do this. If there were a show called Down The Center, I vote for it.
Please–spare us having to listen to E.D. Hill. She is opinionated and talks too much. I want news. I like Eliot's interviews because he listens and responds. Hill has an assertive personality when I want someone who seeks to find out what the person she is interviewing has to say. She says, "I looked this up and this is what I think." I want facts and insights from people intimately involved and so well informed that they don't need to Google something. She reminds me of the Fox news personalities–not a serious newscaster. Please let her move on to Fox network where she'd be a better fit. We switch to another channel when she comes on.

I heard E.D. Hill today 'interview" a Republican congressman on eliminating the tax breaks for the billion dollar profit-making oil companies who are gouging the average American, thus helping to offset the deficit. She basically made all the right-wing arguments for the congressman, leaving him to agree that it was terrible to penalize successful businesses this way, engaging in "class warfare." This woman should be sent back to Fox News to join the other blond, brainless right-wing bimbos. She is an embarassment next to Spitzer, a brilliant man and devoted consumer advocate.
Hooray! Eliot and excellent correspondents! No E.D. Hill! I was able to watch the entire show without switching channels.
Note to Eliot. I think you're terrific–intelligent, respectful of your guests, careful to pursue an answer (without badgering your guest). I think you erred today in not acknowledging the genuine concern that Pakistan has regarding its sovereignty. Your guest made a valid point that Pakistan was a toothless tiger if seen as the USA's leashed servant. I don't fault the mission; I question Eliot's failure to engage the true question: how can Pakistan be effect as a nation if they are seen as a lackey nation?
Diane Wms.
I have tried but I cannot watch E.D. Hill. She's like a goofy teenager. I know you need to have some eye candy to help with ratings but can't you find someone with a brain!?!? As soon as she comes on the screen I switch channels.
Ed Hill is a horrible person and CNN has finally lost all credibility by giving this hate-monger a paycheck.
Sorry to see Eliot leaving. I've been an O'Reilly watcher for the past few years, but found myself enjoying Eliot more and more. Hate the way O'Reilly yells and interrupts guests (like so many do these days) and often spends ages asking a question. But I do like his sense of humor and wit. Hope CNN finds a place for Eliot in another format.
Just saw you on Cnn as I was changing channells. Welcome to my eyesight, My Dear
CNN, you retained Ms. Hill but fired Mr. Spitzer? I don't understand your decision but I do see why your network - excepting Mr. Zakaria's program - is the butt of late night comedy.
Thank god there is someone with intelligence finally on CNN. Edie is a smart no nonsense person that isnt afraid to tangle with liars like Spitser, and the Kenyan Kid.
I used to be recommended this web site by way of my cousin. I am not positive whether this post is written through him as no one else recognize such certain about my difficulty. You are wonderful! Thank you!
